Typical Tasks

  • Interacts with project managers, senior technical personnel, and other functional or support organizations;
  • Performs project management functions in support of an IT Project/Program Manager;
  • Assists in monitoring actual cost versus budget cost and analyzing data;
  • Assists project managers (PM) in identifying staff assignments and checks for staff availabilities;
  • Updates the project plan with work assignments under a PM’s direction;
  • Assists with identifying which resources need to be procured;
  • Tracks and documents project spend, delivery, service levels, and contractual compliance;
  • Participates in project meetings for the purpose of collecting information, action items, decisions made, and recording meeting minutes;
  • Maintains project schedule, incorporating regular updates from each functional team and as requested by the Project Manager;
  • Maintains documentation for identified risks and mitigation strategies;
  • Maintains documentation for project releases;
  • Assists in drafting status reports and updating project documentation as needed;
  • Utilizes established project standards and procedures;
  • Participates in lessons learned sessions and documents findings for future reference and learnings;
  • May be assigned as a Disaster Service Worker, as required;
  • Performs other related duties as required.

Employment Standards

Sufficient education, training, and experience to demonstrate the possession and direct application of the following knowledge and abilities:

Training and Experience:

  • Possession of a Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college.

OR

  •  Sixty semesters (90 quarter) college units, 

and

  • Two (2) years of experience in project management.

Special Requirements:

  • Ability to travel to alternate locations in the course of work. If driving, possession of a valid California driver’s license prior to appointment and the ability to qualify for and maintain a County driver authorization.
  • Depending on the position, related certifications may be desirable.

Knowledge of: 

  • Basic project management;
  • Project management software;
  • Resource management strategies;
  • Methods to monitor project spend, delivery, service levels, and contractual compliance;
  • Risks management strategies;
  • Project standards, and procedures.

Ability to:

  • Interact with a variety of levels of personnel both within and outside the organization;
  • Document a detailed cost baseline from cost estimates;
  • Perform basic project planning;
  • Track and document project spend, delivery, service levels, and contractual compliance;
  • Maintain project schedules;
  • Prepare and maintain necessary project documentation;
  • Work well on a project team.
