Position Summary

Duties & Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL
  • Troubleshoots maintains, manages, and upgrades existing electrical and electromechanical systems.
  • Researches and analyzes causes of failures, repairs/replaces, and installs new equipment or components and related hardware to maximize functionality.
  • Responds to Facility Service Work Orders from building occupants.
  • Completes major repairs and in-depth preventative maintenance in a controls area of facilities operations and maintenance as well as other facility maintenance services as may be assigned.
  • Interprets compliance requirements and ensures standardization of work.
  • Identifies opportunities for process/system improvements and implements them as they are approved.
  • Takes and logs readings from critical equipment and takes appropriate corrective actions before system outage occurs.
  • Interprets blueprints, schematics, and diagrams
  • Diagnoses building management/energy management systems for faults and errors.
  • Tools and equipment are kept in a calibrated or adjusted state.
  • Serves as a primary technical resource in the area of expertise.

ADDITIONAL

  • Uses required personal protective equipment while satisfying all work requests.
  • Perform preventative maintenance on tools and equipment.
  • Observes and comply with all company safety policies.
  • Completes all required paperwork timely and accurately.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • This position has NO supervisory responsibilities.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS

  • Reports to Facilities Supervisor

Qualifications

REQUIRED

  • Minimum two (2) years experience working as a Journeyman Electrician in a commercial, construction, or industrial environment.
  • Valid Journeyman Electrician license issued by the Texas regulatory agency.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Knowledge of and ability to interpret the NEC Code Book.
  • Proficient in fundamentals of lockout/Tagout.
  • Able to understand a project request and successfully complete it from start to finish.
  • Experience with AC & DC motors & drives.
  • Experience with performing preventive maintenance tasks, taking corrective action for repairs, and being knowledgeable in electrical equipment installations.
  • Ability to read electrical diagrams, schematics, and blueprints.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel

DESIRED

  • Facility Management Professional (FMP) Certification
  • OSHA 10 or 30 Training Certification
  • Knowledge of PeopleSoft, Enovia, AutoCAD, and SolidWorks

  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Additional Information

WORKING CONDITIONS

This position is considered 50% OFFICE/SHOP Indoor which is characterized as follows.  

  • Indoors during the day and occasionally at night
  • Occasional exposure to airborne dust in the workplace. 
  • The work surface is stable, height is elevated.
  • Includes exposure to contaminants
  • Requires working indoors in non-controlled environmental conditions
  • Requires working in cramped work spaces and getting into awkward positions
  • Requires working in extremely bright or inadequate lighting conditions

This position is considered 50% SHOP Outdoor which is characterized as follows. 

  • Outdoor during the day and occasionally at night
  • The work surface is stable, height is elevated
  • Frequently working on or near moving equipment and vibrating equipment.
  • When outdoors, humidity is frequently above 90%
  • Requires working in very hot (above 90 F degrees)
  • Noise is over 85 decibels.
  • Light is intense/glare.
  • Occasional exposure to open fire/flames/sparks.
  • Frequent exposure to airborne dust, fumes, and gases.
  • Requires working in cramped work spaces and getting into awkward positions
  • Requires working in extremely bright or inadequate lighting conditions

PHYSICAL ACTIVITY/REQUIREMENTS

OCCASIONAL

  • Lift 50 to 100 pounds
  • Work in confined spaces, kneel, jump, run, work while lying on his stomach/back, crawl, and use repetitive movements of the arms and hands.

  • Steel/safety-toed shoes/boot

FREQUENT

  • Wear PPE for head, hands
  • Climb stairs/ladders stand, balance, stoop, squat, reach, and lift/carry objects.
  • Twist, sit with back supported, head forward/flexed, head tilted/rotated
  • Work with arms extended below the waist, unsupported, elbows flexed, wrist supported, and unsupported. 
  • Operate a motor vehicle

CONSTANT

  • Lift 10 – 20 pounds
  • Standing and walking
