CenterPoint Energy is looking for an Electric Engineering Technician to join our High Voltage Planning and Support Team, located in Houston, TX.

You will have the ability to:  provide technical support services associated with the design, construction, and operation of CenterPoint Energy’s Substation facilities.

To be successful in this role you will:

  • Provide coordination of Substation projects with various internal and external stakeholders.
  • Review and analyze site plans, structural drawings, plan and profile drawings, electric one-lines, and schematics completed by contract engineering resources.
  • Support the design of Relay/SCADA and/or Structural/Electrical facilities for Substation Facilities.
  • Communicate with contract engineering firms regarding design compliance to CNP standards.
  • Perform project management functions associated with contract engineering resources.
  • Support the construction, operation, and maintenance of CNP substation infrastructure through communication with field personnel and contractors.
  • Evaluate material requirements for work orders, coordinate material purchases with Purchasing & Logistics and vendors, and develop and maintain project material schedules.
  • Manage multiple projects involving customers, contractors, and internal departments.
  • Interface with inspectors, engineers, construction personnel, warehousing personnel, purchasing agents, vendors, and management regarding materials and standards development, procurement, and packaging issues.
  • Produce and maintain reports on the material delivery status and take action to expedite orders as necessary to meet construction schedules.

Your background includes:

  • Requires either a minimum of sixty hours of college credits in an engineering discipline or other technical area or on-the-job technical experience in an engineering or electric utility environment.  Will substitute work experience for college with two years of experience equivalent to one year of college.
  • Requires one to two years of experience performing technical work in an engineering environment. Past experience in project engineering and project management is preferred.

A bonus to have:

  • Past experience in project engineering and project management is preferred.
  • Engineering Technician –  minimum of four years experience performing technical work in an engineering environment.
  • Sr. Engineering Technician – minimum of six years experience performing technical work in an engineering environment.
