Amazon Commerce Platform is seeking a talented and self-motivated Technical Support Engineer to work with the AWS Billing team to improve overall system efficiencies through the use of advanced technologies. The ideal candidate is excited to learn new things and willing to work through the details to get things done.

AWS Billing is looking for a Support Engineer who requires to solve critical problems for a new product and its large suite of software applications and services. Your solutions will affect our customers directly!

High Impact production issues often require coordination between multiple Development, Product, and Support teams, so you get to experience a breadth of impact with various groups.

We are seeking exceptional candidates for our NYC office, who possess a blend of technical and customer-facing skills to successfully support the AWS Billing solutions. This job will require a unique combination of flexibility, troubleshooting, creativity, leadership skills and drive.

As part of this role, candidates have the opportunity to work cross-functionally with multiple international teams within Amazon to contribute to the continued success of the AWS Billing Platform

A successful candidate will have a consulting aptitude, strong ownership, incredible attention to detail, and a passion and love for software and operational troubleshooting. You will possess strong customer-facing skills, and a desire to collaborate with some of the best engineers in the industry.

Key job responsibilities

  • Apply advanced troubleshooting techniques to provide unique solutions to our customer’s individual needs.
  • Collaborate with AWS Billing engineering teams to problem-solve critical software production issues
  • Work with development teams to provide technical guidance and troubleshoot operational challenges, by leveraging your extensive customer support experience to provide feedback to internal AWS Billing teams on how to improve our services.
  • Develop training documentation and mentor other team members, write tutorials, how-to videos, and other technical articles for the developer community.
  • Driving the development of automation tools to reduce failures and manual task execution, therefore improving overall application performance and availability
  • Have the ability to resolve critical incidents/problems and fluently applies escalation and notification procedures to leadership
  • Document specific techniques for incident/problem resolution that will enable proactive system management
  • Own and drive Root Case Analysis (RCA) on complex customer issues

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering and/or relevant experience
  • Knowledge and/or working experience with relational and non-relational database systems
  • Knowledge and/or working experience with Linux (RHEL, Ubuntu)

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Unix/Python Shell Scripting skills are a plus
  • Proven experience as lead technician supporting major or critical applications
  • Demonstrable problem-solving and analytical skills
  • Interpersonal and customer-facing skills, with the ability to competently discuss complex technical issues with the software, operations, and leadership teams
  • Ability to manage multiple high-priority tasks simultaneously
  • Experience in a fulfillment or logistics environment a plus
  • Experience with hardware and solutions troubleshooting a plus
  • Knowledge and/or working experience with networking and Product IT management a plus
  • An understanding of AWS or other cloud technologies
  • Demonstrable software development experience utilizing a high-level programming language (Java, C++)
