Job Description

Position Summary

The American Museum of Natural History seeks an Associate Director of Marketing to help lead audience development and promotional efforts for the Museum’s range of initiatives. This person will develop and execute strategies to help grow the Museum’s many audiences, including regional visitors, domestic and international tourists, educators, and others.

The Associate Director of Marketing is integral to the development of marketing campaigns, leads the production of related materials, and manages agency relationships. The Associate Director will also be a key team member in ensuring that dispersed marketing roles/functions in the Museum are operating in a coordinated and complimentary fashion. This position operates at both a strategic and tactical level and requires the ability to prioritize and execute tasks accordingly.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Strategic planning in support of a broad set of goals including general awareness and sales
  • Develop advertising campaigns to promote Museum offerings
  • Media planning for multi-channel advertising campaigns
  • Cultivate tourism trade partners and maximize partners’ individual marketing materials/channels
  • Manage external agency partners (creative agency, media buying, etc.)
  • Develop cross-marketing opportunities with new and existing partners
  • Oversee the development and approvals of print and digital marketing materials
  • Manage on-site marketing opportunities, including signage
  • Collaborate with other business areas (Membership, Retail, Business Development,
  • Visitor – Services) to ensure Museum standards and industry best-practices
  • Craft reports, as needed, on various marketing efforts that communicate impact and/or ROI
  • Travel for industry events and conferences
  • Other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • 7+ years experience in a marketing or strategic communications role, either at an agency or in-house
  • Demonstrated ability to imagine and execute effective marketing strategies at every stage of the marketing funnel
  • Experience promoting ticketed events for a range of audiences
  • Experience developing an advertising campaign, from conceptualization to execution, including the production of assets for various media types (print, digital, broadcast, etc.)
  • Must be able to craft effective creative briefs for agency partners
  • Strong project management skills; detailed-oriented and efficient
  • Experience using data to inform strategic planning and business decisions
  • Collaborative team player with a positive, professional attitude
  • Excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills
