Position Summary

  • The Student Usher at Schimmel Center at Pace University is a representative of both the theater and university to all of those who attend our events.
  • The ideal applicant can work effectively as part of a team to ensure a positive experience for our guests.

Position Duties

  • Ushers are responsible for memorizing the house seating chart in regard to both the orchestra and balcony sections.
  • They assist in pre- and post-show lobby clean-up that may include duties such as light vacuuming, moving tables and benches, setting up stanchions, and arranging chairs.
  • The usher will learn basic crowd control and fire evacuation procedures and will become well versed in all emergency evacuation procedures.
  • They are responsible for knowing and enforcing the Schimmel Center house rules.
  • Shifts start an hour and a half before each event and can last up until an hour after.
  • Ushers perform different “roles” or “tracks” at each event.
  • Roles include greeter, ticket taker/scanner, stage guard, and door guard.

Work Hours

The exact schedule is to be determined by the supervisor; no more than 20 hours per week when school is in session and no more than 35 hours per week during breaks. Hours are based on scheduled events in the Schimmel Center
